The Rocktopus is a gentle ride with a spinning octopus sculpture in its centre and five arms each with four cars. The ride spins, waves and bounces guests around while bubbles emit from the octopus. The Rocktopus is a moderately inexpensive ride which fits in well with the pirate theme and is exciting for a gentle ride.
Octopus types of rides originated in 1930s Oregon and designed by Eyerly Aircraft company, which had started to build and sell rides to parks as an alternative source of income. The original octopus rides were fairly basic and functional looking. The cars could not be raised or lowered all at once, so loading times were quite slow. The ride in Planet Coaster seems to have been inspired by later Eyerly designs which introduced more cars and also from German designs which improved on the technology and gave the rides a more ornate appearance.
