The music of Planet Coaster was mostly scored by JJ Ipsen and Jim Guthrie. It is dynamic and adaptive to the player's actions, generated in real time. There was an official soundtrack release composed of the game's background scores and ambience released in 2016 titled You, Me & Gravity: The Music of Planet Coaster but most of the soundtrack was left unreleased.

John Laws, the Director of Art at Frontier Developments, explained that the audio team wanted to take the player on a similar experience as a film or TV show with the music. Jim Croft, the Head of Audio, said he wanted to capture a warm, friendly, honest and authentic audio experience, which led to him discovering Jim Guthrie.
Guthrie collaborated with JJ Ipsen to create a thirty-second demo track for Frontier consisting only of him playing the guitar and whistling. They reportedly loved it.
